The immediate past Speaker of the Bwari Area Council Legislative Arm and former Peoples Democratic Party chairmanship aspirant in Bwari, Julius Adamu, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for what he described as the credible and peaceful conduct of the ongoing Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.

Adamu spoke with journalists on Saturday shortly after casting his vote at Polling Unit 008, Katampe Village Square, expressing satisfaction with the electoral process and the calm atmosphere at the polling centre.

“INEC has done well, and I can see that the atmosphere is peaceful.

“You can see there is no argument. People are just voting their right choice of candidates,” he said.

The former PDP aspirant revealed that although he initially contested for the chairmanship position under the PDP, he later stepped down following consultations with party leaders and resolved to back the All Progressives Congress candidate in his ward, Joshua Musa.

“First and foremost, let me say I was a candidate under the platform of PDP, but with the consultation and advice of my leaders at the top, I had to step down for the APC candidate in my ward.

“God has His way of doing His own things, and so I have to step down for him for the progress and development of the people of the Area Council,” Adamu stated.

Adamu also assessed the early stages of the election, noting the prompt arrival of electoral officials and materials at polling units he monitored.

He expressed optimism that the peaceful conduct would continue until the close of voting and urged residents to maintain order throughout the exercise.

“There is nothing that peace cannot give,” he added. “By the time the atmosphere is peaceful, everything will be successful. I pray that the way the voting is going on, let it end as such.”

Party agents at the polling unit also commended the electoral body and security agencies for ensuring a smooth process.

The Supervising Agent of the Zenith Labour Party, Glory Onuoha, described the exercise as orderly and credible.

“The election has been peaceful and credible so far, and I pray it continues this way”, she said.

Similarly, the New Nigeria People Party agent, Ilesanmi Adegoke, praised INEC officials for their early arrival and coordination.

“Here at the Katampe Village Square (Chief’s Palace) election has been peaceful and calm, and the election is ongoing, and we hope to have a successful election today”, he concluded.

The FCT Area Council elections are being monitored across the six area councils, with voters turning out at various polling units to elect their representatives amid tight security and general calm.
