OpenAI has announced plans to begin testing advertisements on the free and Go tiers of ChatGPT in the coming weeks.
The company disclosed this on Friday via a post on its official X handle, saying the move was guided by principles of user trust and transparency as it seeks to make Artificial Intelligence more accessible.
OpenAI said responses generated on ChatGPT would not be influenced by advertising, stressing that ads would remain separate from conversations and be clearly labelled.
The company said, “Responses in ChatGPT will not be influenced by ads. Ads are always separate and clearly labelled. Your conversations are private from advertisers.”
According to the company, paid tiers, including Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscriptions, will remain completely ad-free.
OpenAI said it decided to share its approach early to reassure users and clarify how advertising would be handled on the platform as testing begins.
