The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, on Wednesday urged stakeholders in the judiciary arm of government to key into the anti-corruption war in the country.
Speaking in Abuja, he also called for enhanced funding of the judiciary to enable it to perform its statutory roles effectively.
He was represented by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, during the opening session of the 33rd Annual Conference of the Judges of the Federal High Court.
“All stakeholders in the judiciary must key into efforts geared towards the fight against corruption,” he said.
Onnoghen, who described the Federal High Court as “one of the most strategic and significant arm of the judiciary,” said the plan to appoint more judges for the court to enhance its capacity was almost concluded.
In his opening remark, the outgoing Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, said his tenure as the CJ was successful because of the support of his colleagues.
Among the court’s retired judges at the event were two former chief judges of the court — Justices Rosaline Ukeje and her successor in office, Mustapha Abdullahi, now the Wali Nupe.
