Ondo State Police Command has arrested and arraigned a 53-year-old man, identified as Babawale Kolawole, over allegations of serial sexual abuse of his 16-year-old niece, which reportedly led to two terminated pregnancies.
The shocking incident, which has drawn widespread condemnation, occurred at Kolawole’s residence on No. 12, Okeodunwo Street, Igbado, in Ondo West Local Government Area.
Confirming the development in a statement on Wednesday in Akure, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, said the matter came to light following a formal complaint lodged by the victim on September 13, 2025.
According to the teenager’s account, her uncle subjected her to repeated sexual assaults, almost on a daily basis.
She alleged that after each act, Kolawole would clean her private parts with a cloth, and on two separate occasions, facilitated the termination of pregnancies resulting from the assaults.
Acting swiftly on the report, operatives of the Gender-Based Offences Unit of the command apprehended Kolawole and subsequently charged him to court. The presiding judge ordered that he be remanded in custody pending the continuation of his trial.
DSP Ayanlade reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance against crimes of sexual violence, stressing that the rights of women and children remain a top priority. He assured that offenders will be made to face the full weight of the law without compromise.
