Senior Partner at Pistis Partners LLP and the current Chairman of the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Lagos Branch of the NBA, Mr. Olumayowa Owolabi confirmed this morning, that he has picked up the nomination form to contest for the office of Chairman of the Lagos Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.
You may recall that the Electoral Committee of the Lagos Branch of the NBA recently released the guidelines for the 2023 Branch Elections and also advised members of the branch interested in contesting for any elective positions in the elections slated for Tuesday the 27th day of June 2023 to pick up nomination forms from the branch Secretariat. There have been strong rumours that Olumayowa Owolabi will be running for the Branch’s top job. With this confirmation, it is no longer a rumour. Subject to the administrative processes of the electoral Committee, the stage is set for him to participate at the polls scheduled to hold on the 27th of June 2023.
Olumayowa has got extensive commercial litigation and arbitration experience and has conducted numerous cases in all the superior courts of record in Nigeria. His areas of specialization include Energy, Maritime and Shipping Law, Commercial Litigation, Arbitration and Dispute Resolution as well as corporate restructuring.
Prior to the formation of PISTIS PARTNERS LLP, he had worked with and gained valuable experience from two of the foremost commercial law firms in Nigeria, (Jackson, Etti & Edu and Ajumogobia & Okeke).
His deep involvement in admiralty matters earned him appointments on the board of several leading Maritime Companies in Nigeria. He is a Harvard Law School certified Negotiator and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC).
When asked about his plans and manifesto, Olumayowa stated that the Electoral Committee has not lifted the ban on campaigns and that a detailed manifesto will be released in due course. However, he stated that there was a need to continue to build a culture of merit around our leadership positions.
All aspirants are expected to submit their nomination forms and accompanying documents to the Electoral Committee, no later than Friday the 14th of April 2023.
