Participants of the NBA-SBL Tourism Retreat and Roundtable held in Ibadan paid a courtesy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadan at his palace on 9th May, 2025. The Olubadan of Ibadan, His Royal Majesty Oba Akinloye Olalere Owolabi Olakulehin, ably represented by several distinguished figures including High Chief Senator Safadin Ali Abiodun, the Aremo of Ibadanland, Mr. Mayowa Owolabi, amongst others, graciously received the Tourism Retreat participants. Mrs. Chinenye Oragwu, the Chairperson of the Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Committee of the NBA-SBL, addressed the gathering and articulated the purpose of the visit.
She stated that the Travel, Tourism, and Hospitality (TT&H) Committee plays a pivotal role in advancing the interests and development of the TT&H sectors and that the Committee organizes and participates in events, forums and webinars featuring subject matter experts with a view to making lasting positive impact in the sectors. She stated that it was on the backdrop of this that the inaugural Tourism Retreat and Roundtable was held in Abeokuta in 2024 which was successful. She pointed out that the Committee decided to hold its 2025 Tourism Retreat and Roundtable in Ibadan, in view of the city’s rich cultural heritage.
The Chairperson of the Tourism Retreat Planning Committee, Mrs. Pamilerin Akabunwa, spoke about the retreat, its theme, objectives and the itinerary for the three days of the retreat. The Royal chiefs warmly acknowledged participants and commended the NBA-SBL TT&H Committee for the initiative. Mrs. Enitan Rewane, the immediate past Chairperson of the TT&H Committee presented gifts to the royal chiefs on behalf of the Committee and participants of the Tourism Retreat.
Thereafter, participants were taken on a guided tour of the historic palace. During the tour, participants received insightful briefings on the traditional system of succession to the throne of the Olubadan. It was explained that the kingship ascends alternately through two lines: the Balogun line and the Olubadan line, with succession open to the male head of a family, known as the Mogaji. The visit concluded with a delightful lunch hosted at the banquet hall of the palace, generously provided by the Olubadan of Ibadan, rounding off a memorable and enlightening experience.
