Okorocha Appoints 27 New Commissioners

Barely one week after Governor Rochas Okorocha rolled out the first list of Commissioner-nominees, he has beefed up the number to 27 and sent same to the State House of Assembly for legislative processes.

The women, who were lucky to make the list included Professor Florence Emenalo, Joy Mbawuike, Angela Uwakwem, Ngozi Njoku, Ugochi Nnanna Okoro, Josephine Udoji and Gertrude Oduka.

Already, some Imolites have started querying the rationale for what they called “the over bloated number of State Executive Council members in this time of biting economic crunch”.

In his reaction, a former chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Uche Onyeagucha, alleged that “the commissioner-nominees and a host of other appointees, are the campaign coordinators for the 2019 gubernatorial ambition of the Governor’s son-inlaw, Chief Uche Nwosu”.

While condemning the alleged act, Onyeagucha argued that it was geared towards the governor’s alleged self succession agenda.

An APC stalwart, who spoke on strict grounds of anonymity, said that “this staggering number of commissioners not only makes a mockery of democracy, but also puts a lie to the fact that we are facing economic downturn in the state.”

Answering a question, the APC chieftain reasoned that “it the state has all the funds to pay this number of commissioners and special advisers, there is no reason why pensioners and civil servants should be owed their earned statutory entitlements”.
