The Ogun State Government has sealed six industries operating in the state for violating environmental laws.
The affected industries are Winwin Electrical Limited, Isichei Farms Limited, and Chafengei Nigeria Limited, all located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Others include Fortune Height Farms Limited located in Odogbolu Local Government Area, Loly B and DA Ventures Limited in Ijebu-Ode, and Adventus Nigeria Limited, also located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA, Farouk Akintunde, on Thursday said Winwin Electrical Limited, Isichei Farms Limited and Chafengei Nigeria Limited were sealed for air pollution.
Fortune Height Farms Limited, which had earlier been sealed for discharging untreated effluent into the environment, was resealed for breaking the government seal and resuming operations.
Akintunde, who also serves as the chairman of the state’s Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, explained that Loly B and DA Ventures Limited, which are involved in grain cleaning, were sealed for violating a stop-work order earlier served by the agency.
He added that Adventus Nigeria Limited, a tube processing factory, was sealed for exposing its workers to environmental hazards and operating without Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), while Isichei Farms Limited, which produces poultry feed, was also sealed for violating a stop-work order.
The OGEPA boss, however, reiterated the agency’s commitment to ensuring that all industries in the state comply with environmental laws.
