The Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State has criticised the All Progressives Congress for allegedly failing to fulfil the promises it made to Lagosians and Nigerians during the 2023 general elections.
The criticism came amid widespread reports of rising poverty and hardship nationwide.
However, the hardship has prompted the PDP to amplify its calls for change, positioning itself as a viable alternative to the APC government at the federal and state levels.
Speaking with Sunday PUNCH, the Lagos State Vice Chairman of the PDP, Tai Benedict, stated that the APC government has failed to meet Nigerians’ demands.
Benedict stressed that a party that did not live up to expectations could be described as corrupt and careless.
“Generally, the APC has not been living up to expectations. People are going through hardship. Lagos State has never been ruled by the Peoples Democratic Party. The level of poverty in Lagos is very high,” Benedict added.
He said the inability of the PDP to rule the state was affecting many people.
Reacting to the PDP’s statement, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Lagos State, Seye Oladejo, expressed disbelief at the PDP’s ability to critique the ruling party, describing it as ‘moribund and non-existent’ in its effectiveness as an opposition force.
He said, “I wonder what moral ground the PDP stands on in questioning the performance of an APC government that is doing so well and has performed tremendously in providing accessible governance in Nigeria.”
