The Nigeria Medical Association, Ogun State Chapter, has said it will investigate the alleged assault of a final-year nursing student by Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Nurudeen Adekunle.

On Thursday, nurses from Ogun State Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, led by the state chairperson of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Adejoke Bello, staged a protest to express their grievances.

The incident reportedly occurred on September 24 when Adekunle allegedly slapped the student nurse in the theatre suite.

The protesting nurses carried placards with messages such as “End Bullying of Nurses,” “Justice for Nurses, a Must,” and “Zero Tolerance for Nurses Bullying,” chanting various songs to express their demands for respect and justice.

In an interview with Saturday PUNCH, NMA Secretary, Dr Festus Adeonwa confirmed that the matter is under investigation.

“We are looking into the situation to ascertain what happened. It will be investigated,” he stated.
