Nigerians arrested in India over link to drug cartel

Some Nigerians have been arrested by the Indian authorities in connection with an international drug cartel alleged to process and distribute hard substances across Asia and Australia.

According to the Indian Express on Thursday, the syndicate was reportedly spearheaded by a Nigerian identified as Callistus, alias Kallis.

The report disclosed that Callistus allegedly ran a vast drug operation that got cocaine and MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy) from Colombia, processed the substances in India, and distributed them across continents.

One of the suspects, a Nigerian woman simply identified as Lolo, was arrested in September 2025 by officers of the Delhi Police Crime Branch.

She had studied a sponsored course in health and pharmaceuticals in London in 2013, where she allegedly learned techniques later applied in the illegal drug trade.

The Indian police revealed that her training made her valuable to the gang, as she was allegedly responsible for mixing and enhancing the addictive potency of the drugs before distribution.

“She was trained for the specific job of ‘mixing’ pure drugs into addictive variants. Her background in pharmaceuticals made her an asset to the network,” an investigator said.

It added that Lolo was the sixth Nigerian to be arrested from the group, as others previously nabbed included Kameni Philipp, Adore, Victor, Kelechi Chikwe, and an undisclosed suspect known as Tall Guy.

Investigators said the cartel was being coordinated from Nigeria, with a structured command system that allowed operations to continue even after arrests.

“Each time we arrest a leader, another trained operative immediately takes over,” Mangesh Kashyap,  Commissioner of Police (Crime), said. “They are well organised and use coded international communication channels.”

Investigations revealed that the cartel used call centres in Nigeria to supervise orders from customers in India.

During a series of raids, the Delhi Police recovered drugs worth over ₹100 crore (about N18 billion) and seized cash running into millions.
