Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Benin Branch – the Lion Bar pioneers the setting up of the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Committee in any of the Branches of the NBA anywhere in Nigeria.

A Statement on the issue released by the Secretary of the Lion Bar: Andrew O. Lawani indicated as follows:

Please take notice that the committee earlier constituted has been enlarged and christened as ‘Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Committee’. The members are as follows;

Terms of Reference amongst others are as follows

1 To ensure the provision of an effective, comprehensive, and coordinated response to cases of gender-based violence

2 To ensure the effective prosecution of gender-based violence cases in the State

3 To represent the Bar in any fora involving issues of sexual and gender-based violence

4 To liaise with the Police, Ministry of Justice, and the Judiciary in ensuring the effective implementation of the VAP Law

5 To raise awareness of gender-based violence issues among stakeholders, survivors, and members of the public.
