The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 347.5 kilogrammes of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, concealed within an imported Toyota Sienna at the Apapa Port.
The illicit substance was discovered during a joint inspection of a single import consignment containing four vehicles, according to a statement issued by the Customs Public Relations Officer of the Apapa Port Command, Isah Sulaiman.
The command said the drugs were concealed in 13 bags inside one of the vehicles. A detailed weighing revealed 10 bags weighing 25 kg each, one bag weighing 29 kg, and two bags weighing 34.5 kg and 34 kg, respectively, bringing the total to 347.5 kg.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Apapa Port Command, Emmanuel Oshoba, said the seizure marks the fourth major joint drug interception by the NCS and NDLEA at the port in less than two months.
Oshoba noted that the interception underscores his firm commitment that no cargo, whether import or export, will pass through the port without thorough examination.
The CAC warned criminal elements that any attempt to traffic prohibited goods through Apapa Port would be detected and thwarted.
“We remain vigilant and resolute in our duty to protect our society and national security,” he stated.
The Controller added that the operation highlights the strength of inter-agency collaboration, noting that intelligence sharing and joint enforcement between the NCS and NDLEA have consistently outmanoeuvered smuggling networks operating in Nigeria’s maritime sector. According to Oshoba, the seizure is a direct outcome of the strengthened partnership between the two agencies.
He also disclosed that the planned deployment of a high-capacity drive-through scanner, capable of processing 200 containers per hour, would further boost technology-driven anti-smuggling operations at the port.
Oshoba explained that both agencies’ Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) continue to foster zero tolerance, unwavering professionalism and seamless cooperation among officers.
He confirmed that, in line with established protocols, the seized 347.5 kg of Canadian Loud has been formally handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution of suspects.
The CAC further stated that the interception aligns with the 2026 International Customs Day (ICD) theme, “Customs Protecting Society Through Vigilance and Commitment.”
He reaffirmed the Apapa Port Command’s commitment to facilitating legitimate trade while intensifying efforts to disrupt illicit activities and safeguard society.
