The Niger Delta Development Commission has expressed confidence in the newly formed Niger Delta Chamber of Industry, Trade, Mines, and Agriculture to tackle pressing economic issues, particularly unemployment and food insecurity in the region.

In a statement by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, on Saturday, the NDDC lauded the efforts of local chambers of commerce for their collaboration in the initiative.

During a sensitisation programme held in Benin, Edo State, the NDDC Executive Director of Projects, Victor Antai, emphasised that support from various chambers is crucial for advancing small-scale businesses in the region.

Antai, who was represented by the commission’s Director of Commercial and Industrial Development, said, “It has been a success in every state we’ve visited. Chamber presidents and other stakeholders have shown their willingness to collaborate with NDCCITMA.”

Antai also commended NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, for his visionary leadership and commitment to regional development.

The Secretary of NDCCITMA, Solomon Edebiri, explained that the chamber was aimed to accelerate the NDDC’s vision to elevate local businesses from the ground up.

“The goal is to help small businesses thrive and support the informal sector. We will also facilitate access to loans from financial institutions for small-scale entrepreneurs,” he said.
