The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, hosted attendees of the NBA-SBL Tourism Retreat and Roundtable to a dinner at the Governor’s Lodge in Ibadan, the state capital on May 9, 2025. The Governor was ably represented at the occasion by the state’s Deputy Governor, Barrister Adebayo Lawal. Also in attendance were members of the State Executive Council, including the Honorable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, the Chief Judge of Oyo State, the Head of the state civil service, and other important dignitaries.
According to NEWSWIRE Law Events Magazine correspondent in Ibadan, the dinner commenced with a warm reception from a representative of the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Hon. Justice A. L. Akintola.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of the Travel, Tourism & Hospitality of the NBA-SBL, Mrs. Chinenye Oragwu, highlighted the objectives of the Committee, stating that this year’s retreat was aimed at building on the successes of the maiden Tourism Retreat and Roundtable held in Abeokuta in October, 2024. The action points raised in a memorandum further to the 2024 Retreat, Oragwu stated, are being actioned, and that it is positive impacts such as these that continue to propel the Committee to do more.
Welcoming the attendees to the Pacesetter State, Deputy Governor Adebayo highlighted the rich array of tourist attractions across the state, emphasizing that these attractions extend well beyond the capital city of Ibadan. He also highlighted Gov. Makinde’s ongoing commitment to position Oyo State as Nigeria’s premier tourist destination through various strategic initiatives, some of which the Dep-Gov. went on to outline.
There were further remarks from other guests at the dinner, after which attendees sampled a variety of tasty meals against the backdrop of good music.
The dinner formalities were concluded with a vote of thanks given by Dr. Damilola Osinuga on behalf of the TT&H Committee. Osinuga lauded the Governor, his able deputy and other members of the State Executive Council, not just for the warm reception, but also for the logistical support the government of Oyo State extended to organizers and participants alike at the Tourism Retreat.
