In the run-up to its 2025 Annual Business Law Conference, slated for Lagos from Tuesday, July 2, to Thursday, July 4, 2025, the Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL) and the Conference Planning Committee (CPC) held a press briefing on Friday, June 20, 2025 to intimate the media and the general public on preparations for the signature event, whose theme this year is “The Future of Business Law in an Intelligence Age.”

NEWSWIRE Law Events magazine’s correspondent reports that the press briefing was graced by the Chairman of the NBA-SBL, Ozofu ‘Latunde Ogiemudia and other members of her team, as well as Ms. Sholape Peters, Chairperson of the CPC,

The Conference, according to the CPC, would hold at the Harbour Point on Victoria Island, Lagos, and would explore the legal implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation across various sectors.

Since its inception in 2004, the NBA-SBL Confab has grown into the most influential gathering of legal, regulatory, and business minds in Nigeria and has consistently provided a platform for forward-thinking dialogue and collaboration. The 2025 edition will seek to confront the seismic shifts being caused by emerging technologies – particularly AI, machine learning, and intelligent automation – and the resulting need for legal systems, regulatory frameworks, and business strategies to evolve in tandem.

Speaking at the press briefing, Ozofu Ogiemudia Chair of the NBA-SBL, described the Conference theme as a timely response to global trends and a bold step toward future-proofing the legal profession and the business environment. “As intelligent systems reshape how businesses operate and governments regulate,” she said, “it is essential that legal professionals are not only informed but actively engaged in shaping the future. We are not just responding to change – we are driving the conversation.” The 2025 gathering, she went on to say, reflects the SBL’s commitment to fostering innovation, creating inclusive dialogue, and building practical bridges between law, technology, and the industries it serves.

The press event also featured remarks from Ms. Sholape Peters, Chair of the CPC, in which she emphasized Africa’s position within the global digital economy and the importance of ensuring that the continent was not left behind. “We are in what experts describe as the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” she noted, ” which is characterized by an unprecedented blur of technologies across digital, physical, and biological domains. In Africa, as we say, ‘we will not carry last.’ As commercial lawyers and advisors, we must be at the forefront of these conversations—guiding how legal frameworks adapt to innovation and how regulation can both enable and protect progress.”

Peters also unveiled highlights of the 3-day event, which will include:

    – An exclusive Opening Lunch

    – Five power-packed plenary sessions covering cross-sectoral implications of intelligent systems

    – Six sectoral breakout sessions addressing key industries including fintech, energy, real estate, healthcare, the creative economy, and governance

    – Two masterclasses—one on technology and another on the creative economy, featuring Nigerian photographer and musician TY Bello and comedian Chioma Omeruwa (Chigurl) on how creative professionals can monetize their talent

    – A Sponsors’ Networking Event, providing exclusive access and visibility for conference sponsors and partners

    – Structured mentorship sessions, and

    – The Signature SBL Closing Party

One of the key highlights of this year’s conference, the CPC disclosed, is the presence of His Highness, Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II, CON, Emir of Kano, who will deliver the keynote address. His Highness, a former Governor of Nigeria’s Central Bank brings a unique blend of economic insight, policy experience, and traditional leadership to the table, and is expected to set the tone for the thought-provoking conversations that will follow.

According to the CPC Chair, the Conference will also spotlight tangible outcomes beyond the dialogue.

“Whether through policies influenced, investments catalyzed, or partnerships formed,” she states, “the ripple effects of the NBA-SBL Conference continue long after the closing session. We are proud of the platform we have built and the impact it continues to have on Nigeria’s business environment and legal ecosystem.”

With thousands of delegates expected from across Nigeria and the international legal community, the 19th NBA-SBL Conference promises to be a landmark event for stakeholders across the business, law, government, and technology sectors.

NEWSWIRE’s correspondent also reports that the NBA-SBL also expressed appreciation at the press briefing to its long-standing sponsors and partners for their continued support in helping to deliver a world-class event, year after year. “Our sponsors make this possible,” said the SBL Chair, Ogiemudia. “We do not take their support for granted, and we look forward to welcoming them – and many more – this year’s Conference.”

Members of the press, corporate leaders, legal professionals, entrepreneurs, public sector stakeholders, and the general public, she said, are encouraged to participate fully in this transformative event.
