In keeping with his campaign promise, Mr Olabisi Makanjuola, the Chairman of NBA Lagos Branch, commissioned the Football League Committee of the Branch to organise a football competition for lawyers in lagos state. The Committee is chaired by Mr. Adekunle Olaofe.
While the Male League had kicked off since February 16, 2025, the female league commenced on March 9, 2025. This was particularly planned to commemorate the International Women’s Day celebration.
Four teams registered for the competition, namely FC Phoenix, Tigress FC, Eko Strikers FC, and All Stars FC.
The tournament was declared open by the Chairlady of the day, Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okunsanya. She performed the ceremonial kick-off for the competition.
In the other match, Mrs Oge Mokelu-Olisa, General Secretary of FIDA, performed the ceremonial kic off as well.
In attendance were Mr Femi Falana SAN, the social secretary of the Branch, Oyindamola Fasakin, the coach of the Branch’s football female team, Charles Aaron, Uchenna Akingbade-Ogunnedo, Nonzo Azih, Ngozi Victor, Oliver Omoredia, Bayo Olusanya.
The opening week saw FC Phoenix take on Eko Strikers, while All Stars FC slugged it out with Tigress FC.
The spectators were thrilled with beautiful football by the ladies, with plenty of goals.
In the first match, Eko Strikers defeated FC Phoenix by 3 goals to 2, while All Stars FC narrowly won Tigress FC by a lone goal.
The first goal of the tournament was scored by Sandra Imade of Eko Strikers FC, while Vickie of Phoenix FC quickly showed her stuff by scoring 2 “Ronaldo-like” bullet goals. The other two goals of Eko Strikers FC were scored by the “Edgar-Davids looking” Omozele and Shekinat Aboubakar. In the other match, the captain of All Stars FC, Tobi Adewunmi, scored from the spot to give her team the victory.
Members of the branch are already eager and looking forward to Game Week 2.
FC Phoenix will take on All Stars FC, while Tigress FC will battle Eko Strikers FC.
The venue is The AstroTurf Pitch, RiverBank School, Chief Abiodun Yesufu Oniru Road, VI.
