The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Adamawa State has made another significant breakthrough in its campaign against drug trafficking with the arrest of two men transporting 300 blocks of cannabis.
The State Commander, CN Aliyu Abubakar, confirmed that operatives intercepted a Honda Civic loaded with the compressed cannabis blocks, leading to the arrest of 40-year-old Joseph Ayah.
According to the Command, the drugs were transported from Edo State and were destined for Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
In his confession, Joseph admitted he was delivering the cannabis to a regular buyer. “I carried Indian hemp from Edo State to Numan, but I was arrested when I got to Numan while I was waiting for Mr Sani, whom I usually supply the Indian hemp,” he said.
The NDLEA also arrested Joseph’s travel companion, Abdulmalik Yusuf. He, however, insisted he had no idea the vehicle contained drugs. “Mr Joseph met me in Kogi State to escort him to Bauchi, but I didn’t know what he was carrying in the car. I stepped down to buy something, then NDLEA arrested me,” he explained.
The NDLEA Command in Adamawa said investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged once the process is concluded.
