Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu has said that the National is not delaying work on the amendment of the Electoral Act 2022.

Kalu stated this in his country home Bende, Bende LGA of Abia State on Friday while responding to  a question from a journalist during his  media chat.

Former Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar while writing on his X account on Thursday, had accused the National Assembly of deliberately stalling amendments to the Electoral Act 2022.

He warned  that such delays amounted to a premeditated effort to compromise the credibility of the 2027 general elections.

But responding to the matter on Friday, Kalu said the claim by the former Vice President was not true.

“The National Assembly is not delaying amendment of the Electoral Act. It is not true that the Parliament is deliberately delaying them, especially from the House of Representatives,” he said.

He assured the Nigerian electorate that the House of Representatives has done a lot of jobs in filling any gap and is now awaiting the Senate for a concurrent legislative action, expressing hope that the Senate would soon conclude works on it.
