The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has suspended a driver in the Uyo Zonal Office, Mr Akwaowo Jonah Emmanuel, for alleged defilement of minors already sexually abused and kept in custody for investigation.

Press Officer to the Uyo Zonal Office of the agency, Vincent Adekoye, disclosed yesterday that Emmanuel’s suspension was a fallout from the report of an interim committee set up by management to investigate the matter.

The preliminary discipline was taken pending final decision of the Senior Staff Committee would deliberate and recommend appropriate action to be taken in line with provisions of the Public Service Rules.

The suspension was contained in a NAPTIP letter with reference No: NAPTIP/PwP/462/T1 titled, “Update and Proactive Response by the Management of the NAPTIP on the Alleged Sexual Harassment of Victim by Mr Jonah Akwaowo Emmanuel.”

Meanwhile, a human rights activist, Jacob Udobang, has petitioned NAPTIP, alleging some illicit activities of some staff in the Uyo Zonal Office, demanding the Director General (DG), Bents Bello, to institute impartial investigation.

The NAPTIP DG, in response, is said to have vowed that the officer concerned would be made to face the full wrath of the law if found culpable.
