The Nigerian Air Force has announced a 100 per cent increase in Ration Cash Allowance for its personnel, alongside several welfare initiatives targeting housing, insurance, infrastructure, and healthcare.
This, the service said, aimed at boosting the morale and operational readiness of its personnel.
A statement on Sunday by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, unveiled the incentives during the inauguration of a remodelled 160-ensuite airmen’s accommodation at Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Lagos.
“NAF has rolled out a series of transformative initiatives designed to boost morale, enhance well-being, and improve operational efficiency across its units.
“These include a 100 per cent increase in Ration Cash Allowance as part of the 2025 budget, substantial insurance payouts under a newly introduced Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy and large-scale distribution of new uniforms and accoutrements, as well as an upward review of the monthly electricity subsidy for Sam Ethnan Air Force Base,” the statement read.
The ceremony highlighted the NAF’s growing emphasis on the welfare of its officers and airmen as a core element of its strategic priorities.
The CAS further revealed that 23 personnel had received substantial compensation under the newly introduced Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy, with nine beneficiaries paid in recent weeks.
According to him, the policy covered injuries, disability, death, medical bills, and salary reimbursements during hospital stays.
Abubakar also said underway is the distribution of new uniforms and accoutrements, which he said would achieve 100 per cent coverage within two weeks.
“The NAF has increased electricity subsidies for the Sam Ethnan base and procured new medical equipment for the 661 NAF Hospital, Ikeja.
“These interventions are part of a wider transformation to ensure our personnel are well-equipped and motivated.
“Your service and sacrifice remain the cornerstone upon which we are building a stronger, more capable Air Force,” he added.
Beyond financial interventions, the CAS revealed that the NAF was undertaking over 470 infrastructural projects across the country, 295 of which had already been completed with over N61bn invested so far.
These, according to him, included residential quarters, operational buildings, sports facilities, healthcare centres, and places of worship
The Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Adeniran Ademuwagun, lauded the CAS for what he described as leadership marked by empathy and action.
“The newly commissioned accommodation and welfare projects will no doubt raise morale and enhance mission effectiveness,” he said.
