“My distinguished Chairman, Executives and Members of our dear Benin Bar (“Lion Bar”), it gives me great pleasure to share my thoughts on the occasion of our 2022 Annual Law Week celebration with the theme: “Security, Panacea for National Growth”.
Our branch has come a long way, steadily progressing in number, achievements and traction. Every Chairman has given his own quota towards maintaining these progressional strides.
It is on this note that I specifically commend the present administration led by the indefatigable Pius Oiwoh, Esq. for their unrelenting efforts in this regard. I am glad to have this opportunity to air this commendation. It is noble and fitting to give honour to whom it is due, regardless of divergence in ideas or mode of operation.
Accordingly and in line with the theme of our Law Week, I should also harp on the importance of unity, cooperation and constructive criticism without which no group of individuals can make headway. Nigeria is beleaguered by a monstrous degree of insecurity, primarily because we lack unity. Our present security challenges are an offshoot of our constant disunity as a people, engendering stunted national growth. We as a nation must do more to forster unity to ensure security, which will in turn guarantee national growth. We can begin to forster unity from our dear branch.
I therefore enjoin every member of the Lion Bar to always be united in presenting a common front so as to remain a formidable force in the larger NBA regardless of our divergent views; if our interest must be protected, we must be united, being a sterling example to other branches and the country at large.
May we always progress as a branch.
