An outcry was made by a Nigerian mother, known as Iphie on her X account, against the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board regarding an alleged breach of her daughter’s data protection rights.
She claimed that a staff member at a JAMB registration center had used the phone number that was used to set up her daughter’s profile for the JAMB examination to contact her.
She expressed her frustration in a series of X posts on Saturday, stating, “I don’t understand the thought process of Nigerian men that makes them act so foolishly.
“I took Jaya to the CBT center to register for JAMB today, and I used my number to set up her profile. Now, one of the staff from the center is messaging me, assuming I’m Jaya. He’s going to FAFO!
“Lol. This guy is committing so many criminal offenses at once, it’s unbelievable. He’s still messaging with me.
“He claims to have obtained her number from the system after she registered and left because he couldn’t resist.
“JAMB, what about my daughter’s data protection rights?”
In response, the examination body assured her on Saturday that it does not condone any breach of data privacy.
They pledged to investigate the matter, ensure the safety of her daughter’s data, and take decisive action against the culprit and any accomplices.
The examination body stated, “Thank you for this information. The Board, as a regulatory agency, does not tolerate any form of unethical practice that could damage its integrity.
“You can be confident that the information regarding your ward in our database is secure and intact, and that the culprit and his accomplices will be decisively dealt with.
“Please send the details of the CBT Centre and the phone number in question via DM for further investigation, or visit any nearby JAMB office to file a formal complaint.
