A 30-year-old mother of three, Abigail Adebayo, has reportedly taken her own life by ingesting a poisonous substance after her fiancé’s family allegedly rejected her in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
Sources said Adebayo had been in a relationship with her fiancé, Oniga Abiola, since September and the couple had plans to marry.
About two weeks ago, Abiola’s mother reportedly asked him to bring the woman he intended to marry for an introduction. However, when he took Adebayo to his family home, she was allegedly rejected after they discovered she had three children from a previous relationship.
Unable to cope with the rejection, she reportedly consumed a poisonous substance and was later found unconscious in her room.
Her fiancé subsequently reported the incident at the Atan-Ijebu Divisional Police Headquarters.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the woman was rushed to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
He said officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving the report and conveyed her to the hospital.
Babaseyi added that preliminary findings showed no signs of violence on her body and that an investigation was ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
