The Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma has refuted allegations that soldiers in Zamfara and Katsina states are being served poisonous food and unsafe drinking water, describing the claims as “false and grossly misleading.”
In a statement on Friday, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to troops’ well-being.
Abdullahi stated, “All meals provided to troops are prepared by trained cooks from the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, adhering to the highest standards of hygiene and nutrition.
“Additionally, clean drinking water is supplied through boreholes constructed by the Nigerian Army Engineers, ensuring strict compliance with health regulations.”
Addressing concerns over unpaid operational allowances, Abdullahi clarified that the Defence Headquarters has been consistent in its disbursements.
“Operational allowances have been paid up to February 2025, with only March 2025 allowances pending. These are scheduled for payment by the end of the month,” he added.
Regarding delays in troop rotation, he attributed them to manpower shortages but assured that measures are in place for structured redeployments in batches.
The task force urged media outlets to report responsibly and avoid spreading misinformation that could demoralise troops.
“We call on the media to uphold the principles of balanced journalism and refrain from disseminating unfounded claims that undermine the sacrifices of our gallant troops,” Abdullahi concluded.
