As stated, this is an initiative aimed at encouraging lawyers to save according to their income capacity.
Our research showed that while Lawyers earn money, many lack the culture of savings.
In 2010, we experimented in my branch Enugu. We observed that young lawyers attending court daily earned around N5000 -N10,000 per week from appearance and transport fees, totaling about N50,000 monthly. This was significantly the same with a typical monthly salary of some Bankers N20,000. However, most of the lawyers spent their earnings as they came, and by year-end, they often lamented about the financial struggles of the profession.
To address this, we introduced Legalsave—a system designed to help lawyers who struggle to save or plan financially or whose pockets lick.
What did we do to see we achieve our aim?
We deployed staff to courts and Chambers to collect these small, irregular appearance fees that wouldn’t typically go to banks but would otherwise be spent immediately. Once a lawyer concluded his court duties and had something to save, the staff would collect and record it. This also extended to other forms of paid legal work.
Savings were kept for one calendar year, and by year-end, many lawyers accumulated substantial sums—ranging from N100,000 to N1 million. This was good as those who keyed with the scheme testified.
Over time, the scheme evolved from physical cash collection to electronic transfers, involving not just *junior lawyers but senior lawyers, magistrates, and judges*.

Now that the scheme has gained trust and acceptance, we want to introduce it to lawyers across Nigeria, especially those who find it difficult to save and manage their finances. We have a dedicated account for these savings, with proper records.

Savings are disbursed to individuals during the first week of December each year.
