Ralph Uwazuruike, the founder of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), has accused the military of kidnapping four of his security guards.
According to Uwazuruike, the military men invaded his country home in Onuimo Local Government of Imo State and abducted the security guards on Sunday night.
A statement issued by Chris Mocha, Uwazuruike’s Director of Information, claimed: “Some Nigerian soldiers stormed my Okwe country home and abducted four of my security personnel who were guarding MASSOB Freedom House in Onuimo Local Government.”
He further stated, “There was no provocation that led to the abduction, and the soldiers did not provide any explanation.”
Uwazuruike appealed to the Commander of 32 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, near Owerri, to ensure the release of his security men.
Highlighting the peaceful approach of BIM-MASSOB in their agitation for Biafra, Uwazuruike emphasized that the group’s members have never been implicated in any security reports.
“The soldiers arrived at Freedom House in a Navy blue Sienna car and spotted the MASSOB security personnel in front of the gate. Without any explanation or provocation, the five soldiers proceeded to assault my security personnel,” Uwazuruike added.
“After beating them, the soldiers blindfolded them and whisked them away to an unknown location,” he continued.
In response, Army spokesman Joseph Akubo stated that soldiers do not engage in kidnapping but only arrest individuals with questionable character.
However, he acknowledged that other security agencies, such as the Navy and Air Force, wear army uniforms.
“It is important to note that the Navy and Air Force wear the same uniform as the army,” Akubo explained.
