The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has accused the state governor, Sim Fubara, of misappropriating the N600 billion left after the emergency rule.
Amaewhule alleged that Fubara was using the money to try to divide the state Assembly.
Speaking during his press conference in Port Harcourt, the state capital, the Speaker warned that the legislature in the state is not for sale. He said:
“The outgoing administrator during the emergency rule left over N600 billion in the account of Rivers State.
“The governor has been spending it to divide the Assembly and buy the members. The governor needs to know members are not for sale.”
The Speaker also accused Fubara of spending money and awarding contracts without the approval of the state Assembly.
“Since September, when we met, the governor has been spending without our approval, awarding contracts to his cronies and celebrating it on social media.
“Gov. Fubara is awarding contracts to his supporters, and they are celebrating on social media, mocking them,” he said.
