Yesterday, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) announced the successful conviction of Abubakar Sadiq Aremu, who received a four-year prison sentence for cheating and forgery of its annual return receipts.

The commission stated that the convict was charged with uploading forged receipts to fulfill a company’s annual return payment on the CAC portal.

Reportedly arraigned on March 21, 2023, before the Upper Area Court in Mpape, Abuja, Aremu pleaded guilty to the offense and was consequently sentenced by the presiding judge.

In response to the verdict, the Registrar-General/Chief Executive of CAC, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, hailed the outcome as a significant milestone for the commission.

He noted that the victory signified a crucial advancement in their ongoing efforts to curb the activities of individuals attempting to bypass established processes and procedures within CAC.

Magaji reiterated the commission’s commitment to pursuing anyone seeking to violate its regulations, aiming to fortify the system for the economy’s betterment.

In a separate statement, Magaji expressed the commission’s readiness to collaborate with stakeholders in ensuring smooth implementation of entity regulation matters.

Addressing customers and stakeholders during a familiarization session in Abuja, he affirmed his commitment to enhancing the Companies Registration Portal (CRP) by engaging with software vendors under his leadership.

He stated, “This will address issues related to service delivery delays. Additionally, the commission has begun revising our operational checklist to align it with international best practices.”

“This will go a long way in simplifying our processes and also reduce the time cycle for our services and product delivery.

“We are also reorganising the call center to make it a response center that will attend to customer complaints and inquiries within 24 hours.”

Magaji said, “This will also address the anxiety of resolving issues promptly and addressing the overall expectations of customers and stakeholders.

“I will be engaging and collaborating with all of you continuously to get inputs and suggestions that will ensure a good experience in service delivery as we move forward on this journey.”
