The Yobe State Police Command has recorded another case of gender-based violence (GBV) involving sexual assault and substance abuse, which led to the arrest of a 35-year-old suspect, Aliyu Yarima.

Operatives of the Tarmuwa Police Headquarters arrested Yarima, of Potiskum Local Government Area (LGA), at 12:30 p.m. on 26th January 2026, following a distress call from members of the community.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this on Tuesday in Damaturu via a statement that, “Our preliminary investigation revealed that on 16th January 2026 at 10:00 p.m., the suspect allegedly lured the 16-year-old girl (name withheld) of Babbangida town, and gave her a drink mixed with hard drugs,” stating that this rendered her unconscious.

Abdulkarim further revealed: “The suspect thereafter conveyed the victim in his car to his residence, located in Babbangida town, where he allegedly raped her.”

Besides raping the teenage girl, the SP stated: “As a result of the assault, the victim also sustained internal injuries, which eventually left her unable to report the incident immediately, until her health condition deteriorated.”

He added: “Upon receipt of the report, the police operatives promptly swung into action and rushed the victim to the General Hospital, Babbangida, for medical examination, where the assault was medically confirmed as being raped by the apprehended suspect.”

The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, has strongly condemned the act and directed an immediate, thorough, and discreet investigation to ensure justice is served to the victim and her family members.

The Command reiterates its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, urging members of the public to promptly report cases of sexual abuse and other criminal acts to the nearest police station in the state.
