A man named, Chiemerie Onuigbo has been apprehended by youths of Awka village in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State for stealing three children belonging to his neighbour.
The incident was said to have happened on Tuesday evening while the mother of the children was feeding them.
According to a press release by the Anambra State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the mother had gone into the house to dish out some more food for the children, when she returned to meet their absence.
Ikenga said: “In the evening of 23rd September, 2025 through the assistance of the youths of Akwa Village, Ihiala arrested one male suspect, Charles Chiemerie Onuigbo over an alleged case of abduction of three children between the ages of 6, 3, and 2 years respectively.
“Preliminary information reveals that Charles and two others who are currently at large conspired and abducted the three children.
“Further revelations from the mother of the victims stated that while her children were eating in front of their house, she went into the kitchen to get them more food but returned to find them missing.”
He said the arrested suspect who is a neighbor to the woman had been harbouring the two fleeing accomplices whose identities are yet unknown.
Onuigbo was, however, arrested and attacked by youths of the community who beat him up to the point he sustained injuries, but was later rescued by the police.
The children were also yet to be rescued from the fleeing suspects, but the command said frantic efforts were being made to rescue the children and reunite them with their mother.
