A man identified as Lawal Faruq has been arrested for allegedly setting a woman, Omolola Hassan, on fire at the Mami Market inside Odogbo Barracks in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred after a heated confrontation between the pair, reportedly following the collapse of their romantic relationship. Faruq, said to have been enraged by the breakup, allegedly poured petrol on the victim and set her ablaze.

Alert military personnel at the scene quickly intervened, putting out the fire and rushing Hassan to Yawiri Hospital, Akobo, where she is currently receiving treatment.

Sources said the suspect claimed that both he and the victim had taken an oath never to part ways, a claim now forming part of the police investigation.

Confirming the incident, security operatives at the barracks stated that the suspect had been taken into custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
