A man has been arrested in Lagos for violating the state’s environmental laws after he was caught defecating in public along the Oba Akran Bridge in the Ikeja area.

The arrest was made on Wednesday by officers of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, LAGESC, as part of ongoing enforcement efforts to uphold environmental hygiene across the state.

Confirming the arrest, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, identified the offender as Ope Adeniran and stated that he would be prosecuted in line with existing environmental regulations.

“Adeniran was arrested on Wednesday, July 9, contravening the laws of the state and will be prosecuted in accordance with the relevant environmental laws of Lagos State,” Wahab said.

He added that the suspect was caught in the act by LAGESC operatives while defecating on the bridge.

The commissioner expressed concern over the recurring disregard for environmental sanitation laws by some members of the public.

He emphasized that such behaviour undermines the state government’s efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

Wahab warned that defaulters will face the full consequences of the law, and hinted at the possibility of stricter enforcement measures to deter future violations.
