Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 31-year-old man, Joshua Osaigbovo, for the death of 21-year-old Osato Edogiaweria and recovered her decomposing corpse from a shallow grave.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, on X.com.
According to Yamu, a missing person report was filed on April 25, 2025, by Osato’s mother, Mrs Ojo.
The statement read, “Following a case of a missing person reported on April 25, 2025, at Aduwawa Division, by Mrs Ojo, that her daughter, Osato Festus Edogiaweria, 21 years left home on April 20, 2025, in the company of her friend and has not been heard from since then.”
The case was then transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department and the arrest was made after thorough investigation by the operatives of the Family Unit, on June 18.
Upon arrest, the suspect confessed that he invited Osato to his residence at Iyanomon Community in Ikpoba-Okha LGA and during a fight, she died after she hit her head on the ground.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having invited the said Osato Festus (now deceased) to his residence on April 27, 2025, and in the course of their stay, they had an altercation that led to a fight where the deceased fell, hit her head on the ground and died.
He further confessed that he took the dead body of the lady in a wheelbarrow to a bush nearby, dug and buried her in a shallow grave a few metres away from his residence.
The suspect led operatives of the command to the shallow grave at Iyanomon community.
The statement disclosed that he would be charged to court as soon as an investigation is concluded
