The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee has unveiled the shortlist for the 2025 Senior Advocate of Nigeria conferment, with a total of 72 candidates.
57 advocates and 15 academics who have advanced to the final stages of the selection process, will be conferred with the prestigious rank of SAN.
In a public notice signed by Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and LPPC Secretary, Mr Kabir Akanbi, said the committee confirmed that all shortlisted candidates successfully passed through six rigorous processes.
The Advocates 1 and 2 filtration stages, academic pre-qualification screening, a second academic filtration exercise, independent appeals hearings, and law-office inspections.
“By subjecting applicants to these comprehensive evaluations, we uphold the SAN rank as a hallmark of excellence, leadership, and integrity in the legal profession,” Akanbi said.
Advocate Applicants (57)
Notable names on the advocates’ list include Theophilus Esan Kolawole, Ernest Chikwendu Ikeji, Victor Esiri Akpoguma, Leslie Akujuobi Njemanze, Akintola Wilson Adewale, Preye Agedah, Hannibal Egbe Uwaifo, Olumide Ekisola, and Achienike Godwin William-Wobodo. The full roster represents practitioners from across Nigeria’s legal landscape.
Academic Applicants (15)
The academics’ shortlist features distinguished scholars such as Prof. John Alewo Agbonika, Prof. Nlerum Sunday Okogbule, Prof. Najeem Adeyemi Ijaiya, Prof. Violet Aigbokhaevbo, and Prof. Chimajosephat Ubanyionwu, each recognised for their contributions to legal research, teaching, and publication.
According to him, the LPPC has invited members of the public to submit comments or objections regarding any shortlisted candidate’s integrity, reputation, or competence.
“All complaints must be supported by a sworn affidavit before a Superior Court of Record or a Notary Public,” the notice stipulated.
“Interested parties must lodge twenty (20) hard copies of any submission with the LPPC Secretariat by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025, or send them via email to lppcsecretariat@courts.gov.ng and enquiries.lppcsecretariat@supremecourt.gov.ng.
At the end of the public feedback and final committee deliberations, the LPPC will announce the successful candidates later in the year.
