The 2023 cycle of elections into the next Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch may have come and gone, but the reverberations are sure to remain with us for some time to come.
The most notable of these reverberations will surely be the election of Olabisi Makanjuola as the new Chairman of the Premier Branch. A Partner at the law firm of Olaniwun Ajayi LLP, Makanjuola polled a total of 720 out of 1662 votes (which comes to 43.3% of total votes cast) to clinch the exalted office.
His closest opponent, Olumayowa Owolabi came a close second with 684 votes (making 41.2%), while Adebola Lema was a distant third with 258 votes (15.5%).
Other results, according to NEWSWIRE Law and Events Magazine correspondent, indicate that of the ten elective offices at stake, candidates for five of them, namely, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, provost, welfare secretary and Financial Secretary, were returned unopposed, while the remaining Five were elected in keen contests.
