Lagos State Government on Wednesday issued a seven-day ultimatum to estate developers operating without approved layout plans, directing them to regularise their documents or face stringent sanctions.
Dr Oluyinka Olumide, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, led an on-the-ground sensitisation exercise across parts of the Eti-Osa corridor, stressing that the warning follows the expiration of the grace period previously granted to flagged estates.
The state government had earlier identified 176 unapproved estate developments, mainly in Eti-Osa, Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe.
Dr Olumide emphasised the importance of regulatory compliance, noting that all estate promoters must secure proper approvals before engaging in land subdivision, sales, or construction activities.
“The Lagos State Government will no longer tolerate developments that compromise orderly and sustainable urban growth,” he said, describing the seven-day notice as the final opportunity for erring estates to submit layout plans and obtain necessary approvals.
He also warned that failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe would attract sanctions, including heavy fines or demolition, depending on the severity of the violation.
