Lagos Content Creator Narrates How She and Friend Were Raped After Responding to Fake Modelling Job

A Lagos-based content creator and thrift vendor, popularly known online as Fems Thrift, has alleged that she and a female friend were sexually assaulted after responding to a fake modelling job offer, sparking fresh concerns about exploitation and online safety in the state.

In a video shared on her TikTok page, the influencer said the incident occurred on Friday, February 8, 2026, after a man contacted her via Instagram on February 1 with what appeared to be a legitimate modelling and brand promotion assignment. He claimed to have relocated from the United Kingdom to launch an international fashion brand in Nigeria and offered ₦140,000 for her participation, assuring her that a make-up artist and crew would be present at the scheduled shoot.

Fems Thrift explained that she agreed to the opportunity and invited her friend to accompany her for safety. The pair arrived at an apartment in Ajao Estate, Lagos around 11:00 a.m., but found the space mostly empty, with no production team in sight. The suspect then claimed the location was a content creation hub and that the make-up artist had stepped out briefly.

According to her account, the man asked her to take a shower, citing “excessive oil” on her skin, then gave her a robe to change into. After she had bathed and dressed, the suspect returned with a key, ostensibly to show how to lock the door for the rest of the crew. He then allegedly locked the women inside, brandished a knife, ordered them to undress, tied their hands with socks and threatened to stab them if they resisted. He went on to sexually assault both women multiple times.

Fems further claimed that before allowing them to leave, the suspect confiscated their phones, forced them to unlock private folders, and transferred intimate photos and videos from their devices to his own via AirDrop. She said he threatened to publish the material online if they spoke to authorities or publicly shared their experience, warning that he would release private content now and in the future.

The pair reportedly left the apartment between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. that day. Since the video of Fems Thrift’s account went viral, it has drawn widespread condemnation online, with many social media users calling for the suspect’s arrest and stronger protections for young women responding to online job offers.

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that no formal complaint had been filed as of February 11, 2026, but said efforts were underway to reach out to the complainant to commence an official investigation. Authorities are urging Fems Thrift and her friend to formalise their report with police to enable law enforcement to take appropriate action.

The case highlights growing concerns over online exploitation, fraudulent job offers, and the vulnerability of influencers and job seekers on social media. Safety advocates are calling for increased vigilance, verification of job leads, and stronger legal responses to protect individuals from similar incidents in the future.
