No fewer than 164 violators were apprehended for breaching the Saturday monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
One person was particularly arrested for alleged assault on sanitation officials.
He was subsequently handed over to the police.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Nafisat Buge, who monitored the exercise, said that the violators would be charged in court according to the state’s sanitation laws.
Buge, in a statement by the ministry’s press secretary, Shakirat Muritala, said, “About 164 violators were apprehended and will be arraigned before the court. Also, one of the violators apprehended attacked the officer on duty. The said offender has been handed over to the police and will be charged to court accordingly.”
The commissioner commended residents in the Ilorin metropolis for their compliance with the monthly environmental sanitation in the State aimed at a clean Kwara.
“Kwara State has been rated high among its peers for its untiring efforts at eradicating indiscriminate dumping of refuse and sustaining a conducive atmosphere, free of diseases for residents of the State,” she added.
She also warned residents to stop violating the environmental laws of the State or be ready to face the consequences of the law.
