– OKEY OHAGBA, ESQ.
The shocking news of the abduction of our newly called female colleague, Onyesom Peace Udoka, her sister, and others along the Lokoja – Okene axis of Kogi State on their return from Call to Bar ceremony in Abuja is most intriguing, distasteful and resentful. This sad occurence has once again exposed the deepening crisis of insecurity in our country and the seeming government insincerity and/or inability to stem the ugly tide.
It is heartbreaking that on the very threshold of their professional journey, these youths are confronted with the harshest reminder that life in Nigeria today is only lived under constant fear.
To the government and relevant security agencies, this is not a time for usual rhetoric and platitudes of actionless ‘Press Releases’; we demand tangible results now. You must deploy full intelligence and operational capabilities now to ensure the swift rescue of these innocent citizens. We must not continue to mourn avoidable tragedies that mere decisive and proactive measures would have prevented. If our youths can not travel freely within their country, then we must all be concerned about what future we are truly building.
My heart goes out to the families of Onyesom and the other victims. This is an unimaginable ordeal, and I pray for their strength and for the safe and prompt return of their loved ones.
We must continue to lend our voices in demand of good governance and a safer Nigeria.
