A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has sentenced a 20-year-old woman, Faith Joseph, to four years in prison for trafficking another young woman, aged 21, to Burkina Faso for prostitution.

Joseph, who lives in Panshekara, Mallam Sabo, New Abuja Quarters in Kano, was found guilty on two counts of human trafficking and aiding illegal travel.

While delivering the judgment, Justice M. N. Yunusa ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

He sentenced Joseph to two years imprisonment on each count, to run at the same time, without the option of a fine.

According to the prosecution counsel from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Mr. Hassan Nuraddeen, the convict conspired with one Grace James, who is currently at large, to arrange the illegal movement of the victim from Kano through Lagos and Cotonou to Burkina Faso, where she was forced into prostitution.
