The Jigawa State Police Command says its operatives have made major breakthroughs in the fight against crime with the arrest of suspected criminals across different parts of the state.
Police spokesperson, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Thursday, September 25.
According to him, on September 17, police in Auyo Division arrested a 22-year-old man, Lawan Ya’u of Kafur village, after he allegedly attacked a commercial motorcyclist with a knife in an attempt to snatch his motorcycle.
The cyclist sustained injuries on the neck and was rushed to Hadejia General Hospital where he is receiving treatment,” the police said.
The motorcycle was recovered and the suspect remains in custody.
Three days later, on September 20, officers from the same division also arrested another suspect at Gamsarka village, Auyo LGA, for allegedly stealing a red Boxer motorcycle.
According to the police, the suspect was caught with the motorcycle believed to have been stolen from Auyo market.
In Gagarawa LGA, police arrested one Abdussalam, 22, described as a “notorious thief” who has been terrorizing residents of Guard-line Quarters.
Recovered items included three new wrappers, a long knife, a power bank, and a pair of scissors. He is currently under interrogation.
The Command said it also carried out coordinated raids in Kazaure and Kanya Babba towns, leading to the arrest of four suspected drug dealers.
They were identified as Sulaiman Adamu, 26; Usman Auwalu, 25; Kamal Mohammed; Cillala; and Aliyu Abdullahi, 25.
Items recovered during the operation included 81 wraps of Indian hemp, 281 pieces of Exol tablets, 31 Diazepam pills, 10 rubber solutions, 4 Tramadol capsules, 4 Lara capsules, 2 suck-and-die substances, and ₦40,855 suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, praised the operatives for their “commitment and professionalism” and assured residents that the Command will not relent in its fight against crime.
He urged citizens to continue providing credible information to the police.
“We remain determined to make Jigawa State safer and more secure,” he said.
