The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the final register of voters for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election, scheduled for Saturday, 8th November 2025.
Following a comprehensive registration and verification process, the total number of registered voters in the state now stands at 2,802,790, INEC said.
This update was contained in a press release issued on Thursday by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun.
According to Olumekun, the recent voter registration exercise, which took place across the 326 wards in Anambra State from 8th to 20th July 2025, recorded 168,187 new applicants.
The commission subsequently displayed the list of new registrants for public scrutiny, in line with Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.
During this period, citizens were invited to make claims and raise objections regarding the list.
“In continuation of preparations for the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election, the commission carried out voter registration in the 326 Wards across the State from 8th to 20th July 2025. During that period, 168,187 citizens registered as new voters.
“At the end of the registration exercise, the commission earmarked a period of one week (26th July to 1st August) to display the list of new registrants in all the Wards for claims and objections by citizens in the spirit of Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2022,” the statement read.
The statement noted that INEC subjected the registration data to the Automated Biometric Identification System, a technology used to detect duplicate and multiple registrations.
“At the end of the process, 27,817 records were found to be double or multiple registrations and removed from the list,” the commission stated.
Following the cleanup, the total number of valid new registrants stood at 140,370. In addition, 5,983 applications for transfers into the state were approved, bringing the total number of newly added voters to 146,353.
