The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has pledged tougher border security in Kebbi State following the killing of three of its officers by suspected bandits.

Comptroller-General of the NIS, Mrs. Kemi Nandap, made the statement during a condolence visit to the Kebbi State Government in Birnin Kebbi. She described the slain officers as committed personnel who worked daily to secure Nigeria’s borders.

“The officers were brothers, fathers, and sons who served diligently to ensure peace in Kebbi, a strategic gateway for trade and travel,” Nandap said. She added that while the state’s border enhances national economic activities, it is also exploited by criminal elements, underscoring the need for stronger security measures.

Nandap reaffirmed that the NIS would not be discouraged by the attack and vowed to remain professional and dedicated in protecting the state and the nation. She commended the Kebbi government for its cooperation in community engagement and encouraged continued support for border governance.

Responding on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris, his deputy, Abubakar Umar-Tafida, condoled with the NIS over the loss and described the officers as gallant personnel who died in active service. He highlighted plans for joint checkpoints to strengthen operational capabilities and enhance response to criminal activities.

The governor assured sustained government support to all security agencies in the state and noted ongoing engagement with community and religious leaders to promote peace and security.

The attack, which occurred on Friday, November 28, at the NIS camp in Bagudo Local Government Area, left three officers dead.
