Popular Ibadan-based radio presenter, Oriyomi Hamzat, has debunked the claim that he owns the trending ‘Oyo n pe o’ mantra, meaning ‘Oyo is calling you’, amidst allegations that he wants to contest in the forthcoming 2027 election.

Hamzat made the declaration during a livestream on Instagram on Monday.

The Chief Executive Officer of Agidigbo 88.7 FM also urged politicians to stop attacking him because he said if he contests an election in the state, he would win, while disparaging the hatred of seeing presenters in politics.

He said, “They (politicians) don’t want a radio presenter, they don’t believe in a radio or television personality. They want somebody with them. If truly Oyo people are calling me, will I be the one to contest for senator, state representative, or representative? Why are you scared? Why are you attacking me? If I (Oriyomi) contest, if I will win, I will, and if I also lose, it will happen. Did those who previously contested the election and lost leave this life? Stop discouraging people. ‘Oyo n pe o’ has come to stay, and it is not for Oriyomi Hamzat.

“Since people have been coming to inquire if I will contest, did I tell them I was going to contest? But the people who want to vote are ready. I didn’t leave my work to start campaigning despite seeing many already doing that. But you know that during the election, some people are waiting for my voice and waiting for where I ask them to go. You say I can’t win my ward, let’s wait till that time. Let somebody come out from ‘Oyo n pe o’, let’s see if they will emerge or not.

“These politicians who, because of their greed, denied my friend (a grassroots person) the ticket to contest are the ones behind these sinister attacks. This is the attitude of shielding the people who will do well in the state so that they can impose on us, and this is what the people do not want. It is not for me if they choose me to contest the next election, you cannot stop me. Face somewhere else, not me, do or die is what you people know.”

Hamzat stressed his readiness to contest if the people call him to, saying, “The people are ‘Oyo n pe o’ not me. If the people say they want me, I will be readily available.

The posters with the tag, “2027 Oyo n pe o”, had a silhouette of the veteran Yoruba broadcaster in black colour, raising awareness for his preparation in the anticipated election without an indication of the office he is contesting for.

On Sunday, Hamzat noted that he has a better chance of winning the governorship election in Oyo State if he decides to contest in 2027 while engaging a critic.

The critic said, “Don’t listen to those who are saying Oyo is calling Oriyomi Hamzat. They are only lying.

“Although you are helping the masses, don’t rely on them that when it is election time, they will vote for you. They will not.

“Don’t let them deceive you. Even in the area where your radio station is located, if politicians take money there, you will lose the polling unit.

“It is true that you are a good person and qualified, but the masses will not vote for you.”
