The Idahosa family has transformed its historic country home in Ehor, Edo State, into a world-class institution of learning called the Bishop JWI Idahosa Memorial College of Nursing Sciences.
According to a statement issued by its representative, Dr Hilton Idahosa, on Sunday evening, the family said the century-old building has been repurposed to honour the legacy of the first Bini Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Benin, the late Rt. Rev. Johnson Idahosa.
The family stated that Bishop Idahosa’s lifelong belief in the transformative power of education inspired the project, adding that the college is expected to stand at the forefront of healthcare training in the country.
“Bishop Idahosa believed in the transformative power of education. We are bringing that vision into the 21st century,” the family said.
“The college is expected to stand at the forefront of healthcare training in Nigeria, boasting advanced visual and physical simulation laboratories designed to provide students with hands-on, practice-based learning.
“What distinguishes the institution further is its plan to draw on the expertise of Nigerian healthcare professionals in the diaspora, incorporating international best practices into its programmes. With this initiative, Ehor Township is set to emerge as a centre of excellence in nursing education, while also preserving the legacy of one of Edo State’s most celebrated sons,” it added.
The family expressed confidence that the college will not only equip a new generation of nurses with modern skills but also improve healthcare delivery across Nigeria.
“The Bishop JWI Idahosa Memorial College will not only honour a towering figure in Nigeria’s Anglican history, but also equip a new generation to carry forward his legacy, saving lives, serving communities, and lifting the standard of healthcare across the nation,” it added.
