Suspected daredevil assailants on Wednesday at 6:50 am stormed the Maihadiya Village, near Gujba town, along the Damaturu-Buni Yadi road in Yobe State.

Investigations by Arewa Punch revealed that the heavily armed assailants widely suspected to be working for an opposition group in the state reportedly blocked the road and constituted a chaotic scene to commuters and motorists.

It was gathered from a reliable source from the Red Cross International that the armed group commandeered a passenger multipurpose  Sharon vehicle to a halt and abducted some of the unsuspecting passengers.

According to the Red Cross, a highly reputed international humanitarian organisation source, who showed our correspondent one of their latest incident reports, it stated that “a group of armed opposition militants, riding three motorcycles, attacked Maihadiya Village, intercepting a passenger bus (Sharon) en route from Buni Yadi to Maiduguri via Damaturu.

“Upon approaching the scene, the bus driver and a lactating mother identified the armed men and managed to escape.

“However, the remaining passengers, along with the bus and their luggage, were seized and taken to an unknown location,” the report disclosed.

The Yobe State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkareem, when contacted,  also confirmed the incident and assured our correspondent that an investigation was already ongoing to ascertain the number of casualties or kidnapped victims.

“Yes, the incident was confirmed, but investigation is still ongoing to ascertain casualties or kidnapped victims,” Abdulkareem said.

This incident follows a recent attack on Gujba town on March 8, 2025, where armed gunmen targeted houses and shops, killing one vigilante.

The Nigerian Army intervened, repelling the attackers
