Suspected gunmen have abducted Professor George Chima, Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, at his residence in Okigwe, Imo State.
Chima was reportedly playing host to some lecturers from the Abia State University, Uturu in his Okigwe residence when the incident happened.
According to the report, four gunmen suspected to be kidnappers broke into his house and harassed his visitors before whisking him away to an unknown destination.
The bandits were also said to have snatched a passing vehicle carrying wood after they failed to use Chima’s car which was being washed at the time by his driver.
The incident has been confirmed by Police spokesperson for Imo State Command, DSP Henry Okoye.
Okoye stated that the police was already investigating the development.
“Yes, we are aware of the kidnap of the Prof and we have commenced investigations. As I speak to you now, the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma personally led the police to Okigwe and we will catch them,” Okoye assured
