The Chairman of Gassol Local Government Area in Taraba State, Hon. Abubakar Saidu, narrowly escaped being kidnapped by armed men at his home in Jalingo in the early hours of Friday.
This was revealed in a post on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Saturday.
According to Makama, eight armed men, suspected to be kidnappers, invaded the chairman’s residence in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Jalingo around 2 a.m. They were said to be carrying at least four AK-47 rifles.
Hon. Saidu reportedly saw the attackers from his window and quickly contacted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area.
“The police, along with local vigilantes, responded swiftly.
“The quick action of the security team forced the gunmen to flee without succeeding in their plan to abduct the chairman,” Makama wrote.
After the incident, Hon. Saidu praised the prompt intervention of the police and vigilantes.
He said their efforts helped to prevent what could have been a serious tragedy.
He also urged the Taraba State Commissioner of Police to send more officers to protect his home and improve security for public officials across the state.
