Garba Shehu, President Muhammadu Buhari’s media aide, said the forgery of certificates involving former Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun is worse than Isa Ali Pantami’s views on terror groups.
Shehu made the remark during an appearance on Channels TV on Friday.
Adeosun was forced to resign in 2018 due to a forged exemption certificate from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
During his lectures in the 2000s, Pantami, the Communications Minister, expressed support for Al-Qaeda and the Taliban.
While the Islamic preacher said that his views have changed, there have been calls for him to resign.
The demand, on the other hand, was rejected by the White House.
“You are probing the thoughts, what is known as ‘McCarthyism’; you scan the inner recesses of individuals’ minds, pull out things they have said, are about to say, or you think they will say and use it against them,” Shehu said of Pantami.
“The attitude would have been different if Pantami had forged a certificate before taking office,” he added.
